Prerequisites Administrator access to the Rise Up platform is required to configure an external tool via LTI Advantage.
Depending on the tool you wish to connect, some technical information provided by the external tool provider (Launch URL, OIDC authentication URL, public keys, redirect URIs) may be required.
I — Overview of LTI Advantage
LTI Advantage allows Rise Up to connect with external learning tools using the international standard LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability).
This integration is based on the modern LTI 1.3 standard, which relies on OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect protocols to secure authentication and data exchanges between the platform and the external tool. When an activity is launched, Rise Up automatically transmits the learning context (user, training, activity), enabling a secure and seamless integration within the learning journey.
With this feature, you can integrate activities hosted on other platforms directly into your learning paths without importing or duplicating content.
Rise Up therefore acts as a learning orchestration platform:
- the learner starts the training within Rise Up
- an external activity can be launched via LTI
- the learner then continues the learning journey within the platform
This approach enriches your learning experiences while keeping Rise Up as the main entry point for learners.
Key benefits
- Open platform — easily connect external learning tools to your training environment.
- No content duplication — content remains hosted in the original tool and is simply launched from Rise Up.
- Seamless learner experience — learners access external activities directly within their learning path.
- Pedagogical flexibility — ideal for integrating simulations, interactive tools, assessments or certification platforms.
II — Configuring an LTI Advantage tool
To connect an external tool using LTI Advantage:
- Go to: Settings > LTI Advantage
- Click Add external tool
If no tool has been configured yet, the page will display a screen inviting you to add your first LTI tool.
Information to provide
When creating an LTI tool, several fields must be completed using the information provided by the external tool provider.
- Name — name of the tool in Rise Up
- Description
- Target Link URI
- OIDC Authentication URL
- Public key endpoint
- Redirect URIs
Good to know
The required parameters are usually provided by the external tool vendor. Rise Up simply provides the LTI integration framework.
III — Using an LTI tool within a learning path
Once configured, the LTI tool can be used as an external activity within a learning path.
LTI Advantage therefore allows external learning experiences to be integrated directly into your Rise Up training programmes.
Adding an LTI step as an administrator
From the training editing interface, you can add an external activity to your learning path.
- Click Add step
- In the External steps section, select the integrated tool (for example Genially)
- Then configure the activity according to the tool settings
Good to know
LTI Advantage is particularly useful for integrating interactive tools,
simulations, assessment platforms or certification solutions
directly into your learning paths.
Learner experience
For the learner, the LTI activity appears as a standard step in the learning path. When accessing the step, the external tool loads directly within the training interface, providing a seamless and integrated experience.
- the learner remains within the Rise Up environment
- the activity launches directly within the training page
- learning progress remains visible in the navigation
Tip
Thanks to the LTI integration, learners benefit from a seamless experience:
external activities are embedded directly in the learning path while
keeping Rise Up as the main entry point for the training.
-
Issue: The external tool does not launch.
Solution: Check that the LTI parameters (URLs, public keys, OIDC authentication, redirects) are correctly configured.
Issue: The activity does not appear in the training.
Solution: Ensure the tool has been configured in Settings > LTI Advantage and added to the learning path step. -
Is the content stored in Rise Up?
No. With LTI Advantage, the content remains hosted within the external tool.
Does the learner need to create an account in the external tool?
In most cases, no. LTI automatically transmits the user context.
