How to create an Learning Reinforcement theme?

  • Updated

The Designer role allows you to create your themes (i.e. a theme is a set of concepts, learning reinforcement questions and/or challenges). Find out here how to create an assessment theme.

This article covers the following topics:

Step 1 : Information

> Elements to fill in to create a theme

  • Name of your theme
  • Short description
    • This one is only visible for designers
  • Cover image
    • This image will be visible to other designers in the Designer index
    • Recommended format : ratio 1 :1 ; PNG or JPEG

Step 2: Concepts

> Add concepts

You have two options to add concepts to your theme:

1. Click on "create a concept" to add a new concept manually.
2. Click on "from an existing concept" to add a concept already created in another theme.
Note: the titles of the concepts are visible to the learners when they answer their reminders.

> Delete concepts

You can delete concepts as long as the theme is not published.

> Add and edit an existing concept in another theme

You can use an existing concept in another theme.

If one or more concepts are created in another theme from an existing concept, any change in one of them will affect the others because they are assumed to be identical.

> Impacts of using the same concept in several themes

Domoscio keeps track of your learners' data history: the reinforcement level is shared between themes for the same concept. Domoscio will only ask the user one question related to the concept per reminder session.

> Number of concepts to create in a theme

Domoscio recommends you to create 3 to 10 concepts per theme.

Step 3 : Content

> Types of content to include

  • Learning reinforcement questions: allows the learner to reinforce theoretical knowledge seen in training.
  • Challenges: allows learners to reinforce technical or behavioral skills by putting them into practice.

> Integrate content

You have two options for integrating your content:

1. Manual creation from the authoring tool
2. Import your content via an Excel import template
> Number of questions and/or challenges to create per concept:

To publish an learning reinforcement theme, it is necessary to create 4 items (questions and/or challenges) per concept.

  • To create an learning reinforcement theme composed of questions only: create at least 4 questions per concept
  • To create an learning reinforcement theme composed of challenges only: create at least 4 questions per concept
  • To create a mixed learning reinforcement theme composed of questions and challenges: create at least 4 contents (questions and/or challenges) per concept

The Training Manager can choose to use questions, challenges or both when adding the theme to an experience depending on the number of items available in the created theme (see Training Manager role).

1. Learning reinforcement questions

Types of questions and associated character constraints :

  • Multiple choice question: includes Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) and Single Choice Questions (SCQ). The associated answer suggestions will be displayed in a random order to the learners. The MCQs will have a round checkbox, the MCQs a square checkbox. You can add a maximum of 6 answer choices per question.

Character constraints (including spaces):

  • Title: maximum 50 characters
  • Statement: maximum 300 characters
  • Proposals: maximum 300 characters
  • Feedback : maximum 500 characters

  • Open question : You can ask an open question to the learners. We advise you to provide a short answer for this type of question. The tool gives the learner a margin of error for spelling mistakes or plurals, but the longer the expected answer, the higher the risk that the learner's answer will differ from the initial text.

Character constraints (including spaces):

  • Title: maximum 50 characters
  • Statement: maximum 300 characters
  • Answer: maximum 120 characters
  • Feedback: maximum 500 characters

  • Matching questions : These questions allow you to match two categories of elements. You can add a maximum of 6 answer proposals per question.

Character constraints (including spaces):

  • Title: maximum 50 characters
  • Statement: maximum 300 characters
  • Proposals: maximum 170 characters
  • Feedback : maximum 500 characters

Fill-in-the-blank question: These questions allow you to construct sentences containing gaps to be filled in. These gaps can be in the form of a free field or give access to a list of possible answers. You can add a maximum of 6 answer proposals per question.
Character constraints (including spaces):

  • Title: maximum 50 characters
  • Statement: maximum 500 characters
  • Proposals: maximum 46 characters
  • Feedback : maximum 500 characters

> Media that can be integrated into a question

It is possible to add media to your questions, in the proposed answers or in the feedback provided to users. Below is the list of media that can be used in Domoscio Lock:

  • Visuals : you can add images in JPG or PNG format.
  • Videos : you can add a video using an embed link. The video must first be uploaded to a video hosting site.
  • The authoring tool also allows you to add hyperlinks, quotes, mathematical formulas or html formatted text.

> Create a question manually from the authoring tool

1. Select the type of question you want to create
2. Add a title that will allow you to find it easily. This title will not be visible to the learners.
3. Create the statement and the proposals
4. Add an explanation in case of right/wrong answer or a default explanation that will be displayed in all cases (optional)
Once this form is completed, you can save the question. The newly created question is then added to the left column.

The question miniature allows you to edit, delete, preview your question (you can preview a question only after saving the changes you made).

NB: on this page, you will also find indications on the actions to be carried out/underway (orange color code) and the completed actions (green color code). It is necessary to create at least 4 items (questions and/or challenges) per concept to publish your theme.

> Integrate questions from the import template

To do this, refer to the import instructions. You will find it on your platform: theme > step 3 contents > import a file > download the import instructions (file available at the end of the article).

2. The challenges

> How does a challenge work?

During the reminder session, the learner will be offered challenges. He will have the possibility to accept a challenge or to refuse it if it is not the right time for him.

Once the challenge is accepted, the learner will have 7 days to complete it and thus increase his level of learning reinforcement.

=> After this time, the learner will no longer be able to validate the challenge and will unfortunately not advance his or her learning reinforcement level.

=> When a learner succeeds in his challenge, he can validate it in the application and indicate the difficulty he had to accomplish it. This success allows the learner to progress in the learning reinforcement of the linked concept and its implementation on the field.

> Create a challenge manually from the author tool

1. Add a title that will allow you to easily find your challenges. This title will not be visible to the learners.
2. Create the statement of your challenge (example: at your next meeting, remember to recap the agenda at the beginning of the discussion).
Once this form is completed, you can save the challenge. The newly created challenge will then be added to the left column.

The challenge miniature allows you to edit and delete your challenge.

NB: on this page, you will also find indications on the actions to be done/underway (orange color code) and the completed actions (green color code). You will not be able to publish your theme if you have not created at least 4 contents (questions and/or challenges) per concept.

> Integrate challenges from the import template

To do this, please refer to the import instructions. You will find it on your platform: theme > step 3 contents > import a file > download the import instructions (file available at the end of the article).

Step 4 : Publication

> Save a theme being created

The modifications of your theme are automatically saved. However, a theme cannot be used by the Training Manager in an experience as long as it has not been published (i.e. theme remains in the draft state).

> Publish a theme

Publication should only take place once your theme is ready and does not require any further modifications.
