Prerequisites & critical constraints
• The Anonymous perimeter must be selected at course creation. This setting cannot be changed once the course has been saved.
• Only Administrators and Course Designers can retrieve the anonymous course access URL.
• Anonymous courses are never visible in the catalogue. Access is exclusively via the dedicated URL.
• Learner access is valid for 24 hours from the moment they register and connect. After that window, they cannot resume their progress.
What is an Anonymous Course?
An Anonymous Course allows anyone with the URL to access a course immediately, with no user account required on the platform. The learner simply fills in a short registration form (email, last name, first name) and starts the course right away.
This mode is designed for external audiences — candidates, prospects, or any third party — where creating a full platform account would be unnecessary or undesirable.
No licence token is consumed. No persistent user account is created. Progress cannot be resumed after the 24-hour session window expires.
Key behaviours to know before you start
- The learner accesses the course immediately after submitting the registration form — no administrator approval required.
- A temporary anonymous user record is created in the back-end, but it cannot be converted into a standard account. If the learner later needs a real account, it must be created separately.
- The learner's session is active for 24 hours from first login. In some cases, cached content may remain briefly accessible after that window — this is browser behaviour, not a platform feature.
- The course does not consume licence tokens, making it suitable for high-volume or one-off external distribution.
- The course does not appear in the catalogue — distribution relies entirely on sharing the URL.
The Anonymous perimeter is configured at course creation, in the General information section of the course configuration form.
- Navigate to Courses and click Create a course.
- In the General information tab, locate the Perimeters field.
- Select Anonymous as the perimeter (instead of Internal & partners).
- Complete all other required fields (name, language, course designers, etc.).
- Click Save to confirm. The perimeter is now locked and cannot be modified.
This choice is irreversible. Once the course is saved with the Anonymous perimeter, it is not possible to switch it to Internal, Partner, or any other perimeter type. Plan accordingly before creating the course.
Once the course is published, retrieve its unique access URL to distribute it to your external audience.
- Go to Courses to open the course list.
- Locate the anonymous course. Its perimeter is labelled Anonymous in the course summary line.
- Click the three-dot menu ( ⋮ ) on the right side of the course row.
- In the dropdown, click Course access URL.
- Copy the URL and distribute it via your preferred channel (email, messaging, campaign, etc.).
When a recipient opens the anonymous course URL, they see a simplified registration page — not the full platform interface.
- The page displays the course banner and a short form requesting: Email, Last name, First name.
- After clicking Validate, the learner is taken directly into the course content — no waiting, no account confirmation.
- The learner can navigate the course freely during their 24-hour session window.
- Closing the browser or leaving the page ends the session. The learner cannot return to resume progress once the 24-hour window from their initial login has elapsed.
- No platform account is created. The learner has no access to any other part of the platform.
What the learner sees — Registration form
The form is the only step between receiving the URL and starting the course. No account creation, no password, no email confirmation.
Fields displayed: Email * | Last name * | First name * → Validate
The course banner is displayed at the top of the page, giving the learner visual context before they begin.
Both modes allow external access via a URL, but they serve different purposes. Use the table below to select the right approach for your use case.
| Criteria | Anonymous Course | Dedicated Page |
|---|---|---|
| User account created | ✗ No | ✔ Yes (if registration enabled) |
| Licence token consumed | ✗ No | ✔ Yes |
| Learner can resume progress | ✗ No — 24h session only | ✔ Yes |
| Immediate access (no admin approval) | ✔ Always | Configurable (with or without validation) |
| Appears in catalogue | ✗ Never | Configurable |
| Shows course presentation page | ✗ No — registration form only | ✔ Yes — full landing page |
| Typical use cases | Recruitment assessments, prospect demos, one-time external quizzes | Promoting courses to prospects or clients, self-registration flows |

Issue: The learner receives the URL but cannot access the course.
Solution: Verify that the course is published (Published status in the course list). An anonymous course in Draft status is not accessible via its URL.
Issue: The learner completed the course but can no longer access it to review content.
Solution: This is expected behaviour. The 24-hour session window starts at first login. Once elapsed, access is permanently lost for that registration. If the learner needs to retake the course, they must re-register using the same URL — a new anonymous record will be created.
Issue: The learner reports they can still see the course a few hours after their session expired.
Solution: This is a browser cache effect and is temporary. It does not indicate that the session has been extended. The learner will lose access as soon as the cache clears.
Issue: The Course access URL option does not appear in the three-dot menu.
Solution: This option is only visible to Administrators and Course Designers. Check the user's role in platform settings. Also confirm the course perimeter is set to Anonymous — the option does not appear on Internal or Partner courses. -
Can I change the perimeter of an existing course to Anonymous?
— No. The perimeter is set at course creation and cannot be modified afterwards. To obtain an anonymous version of an existing course, duplicate it and select the Anonymous perimeter when saving the duplicate.
Does an anonymous course consume licence tokens?
— No. Anonymous courses do not deduct licence tokens or registration credits, regardless of how many learners register.
Can anonymous learners appear in the catalogue?
— No. Anonymous courses are never visible in the catalogue. Distribution relies entirely on sharing the dedicated URL.
Can I convert an anonymous user record into a standard account?
— No. The temporary record created at registration cannot be edited or converted. If the learner later needs a full platform account, an administrator must create one manually from scratch.
Can I track completions or quiz results for anonymous learners?
— Completion data is tied to the anonymous record created at registration. Reporting availability may differ from standard learner tracking — check the platform's reporting section for available data on anonymous completions.
What is the difference between an Anonymous Course and a Dedicated Page?
— Both allow external access via a URL. An Anonymous Course requires no account and gives immediate access, but limits the session to 24 hours with no progress resumption. A Dedicated Page can create a full user account, allow progress to be resumed, and optionally require administrator approval — but it consumes licence tokens.
