SCORM Launcher — Export a Course as SCORM for External LMS

  • Updated

Prerequisites
An administrator account on Rise Up.
An existing course already created on the platform.

Enable SCORM Launcher: If the option is not visible, please contact your CSM or Rise Up Support to activate it.

⚠️ Consumption & External Usage — Important
SCORM Launcher exports generate a light SCORM package based on a secure redirection URL. The course content remains fully hosted on Rise Up and is not embedded inside the SCORM file.

When a learner launches the SCORM from an external LMS:

  • A Rise Up user account is automatically created if it does not already exist.
  • Progress and tracking are processed on Rise Up.
  • Consumption is triggered according to your contract (license or token).
Good to know
SCORM Launcher exports are not autonomous packages. If the export is suspended or if the Rise Up platform is no longer active, the SCORM will stop working externally.

What is the SCORM Launcher?

The SCORM Launcher allows you to distribute Rise Up courses to external LMS platforms while keeping the content hosted and managed on Rise Up.

  1. Interoperability: Share courses across LMS environments.
  2. Centralised hosting: Content stays maintained on Rise Up.
  3. Controlled distribution: You can suspend external access at any time.

I — Create and export a course

Exporting a course generates a SCORM 2004 (4th edition) package that redirects learners securely to Rise Up.
  1. Open your courses from the side menu.
  2. Click View then open course settings via the gear icon.
  3. Click the export option to generate the SCORM package.
  4. Select the perimeter and confirm.
  5. Download the SCORM file and provide it to your external LMS.
Administration tip
Always test your exported SCORM in a sandbox LMS before distributing it widely.

II — Manage your SCORM exports

Once you've exported your Scorm, from the course administration page, select Manage SCORM exports.
  • Download again: retrieve an existing SCORM export.
  • Suspend: immediately disable external access.
Suspending an export immediately stops external access.
Learners will no longer be able to launch the course externally once suspended.
Good to know
Suspending an export prevents future launches from external LMS platforms. Existing learner data and tracking history remain available on Rise Up.

III — External learner behaviour & tracking

Each time a learner launches the course via an external LMS:

  • A Rise Up user account is created automatically.
  • Tracking and reporting are handled on Rise Up.
  • Consumption is applied automatically according to your contract.
Good to know
To understand how progress, completion and scores are interpreted, see: SCORM on Rise Up — Compatibility, Progress & Tracking .

IV — Import a SCORM into Rise Up

You can also upload external SCORM packages when creating or editing a course by adding a SCORM step.
  • Create or edit a course.
  • Add a SCORM step.
  • Upload your SCORM file.
  • Issue: External SCORM does not launch.
Fix: Verify the export is not suspended and that the Rise Up platform is active.

Issue: Progress or completion is not tracked correctly.
Fix: Test the SCORM package using SCORM Cloud or inspect runtime calls with SCORM Debugger.

    Issue: Consumption appears unexpectedly.
Fix: Consumption always occurs because external learners are created and tracked on Rise Up.
  • Can I modify the SCORM exported with SCORM Launcher?
    - No. The export is a redirection package and does not include editable source files.

Can I export my course as a fully autonomous SCORM?
    - No. SCORM Launcher packages depend on Rise Up hosting.

What happens if my Rise Up platform is no longer active?
    - External SCORM exports stop working because the content is hosted on Rise Up.
